Why Transform Your Garden

Customers frequently approach us to address their outdated gardens, which often feature poor layouts, unusable lawns, deteriorating old paving, overgrown planting, mismatched elements, drainage issues, collapsing decking, awkward levels, insufficient entertaining space, and a lack of creativity.

The solution is not merely adding another feature or a level area; it involves a deeper understanding and assessment of how new components can be seamlessly integrated into the existing garden. Even if certain parts are entirely new, the overall plan should feel cohesive, with old and new elements coexisting – whether through structures, planting, or various features.

A customer approached us seeking to replace their deteriorated old decking with a more attractive, low-maintenance solution that complements their interior colours. They also expressed a desire for a view into the garden, preferring as much visibility as possible from the decking area into the lawn to create an inviting and harmonious outdoor space.

Small Overgrown Garden to Attractive Minimalist Space

BEFORE PHOTO

Shaded, overgrown and moss-covered. This garden has been given several opportunities in the past. The clients wanted a simple, low-maintenance solution to make the garden more inviting and enjoyable with minimal effort.

AFTER PHOTO

Given the garden’s location in a notably shaded area, we selected a subtle dove grey gravel to establish a calming foundation. With white walls as a backdrop, we constructed timber planters and treated them with a nut-pigmented oil, infusing warmth into the space. Carefully chosen plants have been incorporated to soften the garden’s geometric shape and to create a brighter, more inviting atmosphere-proving that even shaded areas can become vibrant retreats!

Why Choose Sekoya Gardens for your garden transformation?

One Team For the Complete Garden

We bring hard landscaping, soft landscaping, planting and garden construction together as one coordinated project. This helps each element of the garden work together rather than being planned and built in isolation.

Planned With Construction in Mind

A successful garden needs to look good, but it also needs to work practically on the ground. We consider levels, access, drainage, materials, planting, and how the garden will actually be constructed from the outset.

Quality Materials and Craftsmanship.

We select materials according to their intended use, durability and suitability for the individual garden. Just as importantly, we focus on the preparation and construction beneath the finished surface, where much of the landscape project’s long-term performance is determined.

Horticultural Knowledge

A garden transformation is more than planting, decking and construction. We consider existing plants, soil conditions, positioning, and appropriate new plantings to create a garden that can develop and mature naturally.

Real Projects Across St Albans and Hertfordshire

Our garden transformations are based on real projects completed for homeowners across St Albans and the surrounding Hertfordshire area. The before and after examples on this page show the type of problems we encounter and the practical solutions we have created.

Proven Customer Feedback

Our customer reviews provide independent feedback on completed landscaping projects and the experience of working with Sequoia Gardens. Rather than asking you to take our word for it, we encourage prospective clients to read our recent reviews and see our completed work.

Frequently Asked Questions About Garden Transformation

Q. How much does a complete garden transformation cost?

A. Each garden is unique, and the associated costs vary depending on its size, access points, current condition, and desired outcomes. Your selection of materials, design style, and level of detail will greatly impact the overall expenses. We can discuss your priorities and guide you in allocating your budget effectively.

Q. How long does a garden transformation take?

A. Smaller transformations may take several days, while larger or more complex landscaping projects can take several weeks. Once we understand the design and scope of work, we can give you a clearer idea of the programme before work begins.

Q. Can you design and landscape the whole garden?

A. Yes. We can bring together the design, hard landscaping, lawn planting and other elements needed to create a complete garden. Having the different elements considered together also helps the finished space feel cohesive rather than like a collection of separate improvements.

Q. Can you transform an overgrown garden?

Yes. An overgrown or neglected garden can often have far more potential than first appears. We can assess what is worth retaining, clear what no longer works, and redesign the space around the way you would actually like to use your garden.

Q. Do you provide both hard and soft landscaping?

A. Yes. We undertake both hard landscaping, such as patios, paving, decking, fencing, and garden structures, and soft landscaping, including lawns, soil preparation, and planting. Combining the two is often what turns a newly constructed outdoor space into a garden that feels established and inviting.

Q. Can you replace an old patio or decking as part of the project?

A. Yes. Existing patios and decking can be removed and replaced as part of a wider garden transformation. This also gives us the opportunity to reconsider the layout, levels, and relationship between the seating areas, lawn, and planting, rather than simply replacing old materials like-for-like.

Q. Can you improve garden drainage during a transformation

Yes, where drainage problems can be addressed through appropriate landscaping works. We assess levels, ground conditions, and where water collects before deciding on a suitable approach, as drainage solutions should be based on the individual garden rather than a one-size-fits-all method.

Q. Do I need a garden designer before contacting a landscaper?

A. Not necessarily. You can contact Sekoya Gardens while you are still deciding what to do with the space. We can discuss what you like, what isn’t working in your existing garden, how you want to use it and whether your project requires a more detailed design process.

Q. Can a garden be transformed in stages?

A. Yes, some gardens can be landscaped successfully in planned stages, particularly when budget or timing makes completing everything at once impractical. The important part is thinking ahead so that work completed now does not unnecessarily restrict or have to be removed during a later phase.

Q. What is the best time of year to landscape a garden?

A. Garden landscaping can be carried out for much of the year, although weather and ground conditions can affect certain types of work. Planting also has seasonal considerations, so the best timing depends on what your transformation involves, rather than there being one perfect month for every project.

Q. Do you provide garden transformations throughout Hertfordshire?

A. We undertake garden transformations in St. Albans and surrounding areas of Hertfordshire, with the suitability of projects further afield depending on their location and scope. If you are unsure whether we cover your area, contact us with your postcode and a brief description of the garden, and we can let you know.
